Nicosia
… has been the capital of Cyprus since the 10th century. It lies in the
flat, central Mesaoria plain. Nicosia is only capital city in the world
to be divided. The green line splits the heart of the old town, which is
surrounded by high walls. In Nicosia you can easily find the important
museums, the Archbishop palace, the monastery of the archangel Gabriel
and the Presidential Palace.
Most of the City is very modern with hotels and restaurants, office
blocks and shops, but in between the old walls a very special atmosphere
is preserved. The Laiki Yitonia is a restored pedestrian area with
charming, small alleys and traditional houses.
